First steps and vape device maintenance

A properly used vape works better, lasts longer and avoids most common problems: burnt taste, leaks, low vapour production, flashing lights or coils wearing out too soon.

Practical guide for adult smokers starting vaping. Basic maintenance is not optional: it is what separates a good experience from a device that keeps causing problems.

1. Just received your kit? Do this before vaping

Most problems with a new vape appear when it is used too quickly: dry coil, poorly closed tank, badly seated pod or battery with insufficient charge.

1. Check the contents

Make sure you have the device, cartridge or tank, coil if supplied separately, charging cable if included and the manufacturer’s manual.

2. Identify the replacement type

Some devices use replaceable coils; others use full cartridges or pods. Knowing this prevents buying the wrong replacements.

3. Do not fire before filling

If you activate the device with dry cotton, you may burn the coil from the first use. Fill first and wait.

2. Priming the coil or pod: the step you must not skip

Priming means allowing the internal cotton of the coil to soak properly with liquid before the first puff. It is the most important step to avoid burnt taste.

  1. Fill the tank, cartridge or pod with the right liquid.
  2. Wait at least 5-10 minutes before vaping.
  3. With automatic-draw pods, you can take a few gentle pulls without activating the device if the system allows it.
  4. Start with short, gentle puffs; do not push power hard from the first moment.

If you vape with dry cotton, the coil can burn in seconds. A burnt coil does not recover: it must be replaced.

3. Power, lock and charging

Power and lock

Many devices switch on or off by pressing the button 5 times quickly. Others are automatic-draw and have no button. Always check the manufacturer’s manual.

Correct charging

Charge the device with a suitable adapter and avoid aggressive fast chargers if the manufacturer does not recommend them. You do not always need to wait until 0%.

Transport

Turn off or lock the device before putting it in a pocket or bag. Accidental activation can heat the coil and burn it.

4. Flashing light and not working: what to check

If the device flashes and does not produce vapour, it is usually indicating protection, low battery, poor connection or that it is not detecting the coil or pod.

  • Check the charge: connect the device and see whether it responds.
  • Check the pod or coil: make sure it is properly seated or correctly screwed in.
  • Clean contacts: dry the contact area with clean paper if there is liquid or condensation.
  • Replace the consumable: if the problem continues, try another compatible coil, cartridge or pod.

5. How to vape correctly

Do not use an electronic cigarette exactly like a traditional cigarette. Vaping works better with slower, controlled puffs.

Take gentle 2-3 second puffs, without chain-vaping too many in a row. This improves flavour, avoids overheating the coil and gives the cotton time to absorb liquid again.

6. Basic maintenance guide

Action VapVip tip
Refilling Refill through the area indicated by the manufacturer. Avoid filling the central airflow tube and do not let the tank run completely dry.
Daily cleaning Clean the mouthpiece, contacts and pod area with dry paper. Accumulated condensation is a common cause of leaks and poor contact.
Coil replacement Replace the coil or pod if you notice burnt taste, loss of flavour, persistent leaks or very weak vapour.
Transport Turn off or lock the device before storing it. Avoid carrying it loose with keys, coins or objects that may damage it.
General care Avoid impacts, water, extreme heat and dirt. A vape is an electronic device: cleaning and correct handling extend its lifespan.

7. Deep cleaning

If you notice persistent leaks, strange flavours or heavy condensation, disassemble the pod or atomizer and clean only the parts the manufacturer allows you to clean. Always remove the coil first if you are going to wash the tank with lukewarm water.

Never get the battery, charging port or coil wet. Dry everything completely before reassembling the device.

Frequently asked questions about vape maintenance

How long should I wait before using a new coil?

Wait at least 5-10 minutes after filling. The cotton must soak properly before receiving heat.

Why does it taste burnt?

It may be due to a dry coil, too much power, liquid that is too thick, too many puffs in a row or a worn-out coil. If it already tastes clearly burnt, it usually needs replacing.

Why is my vape leaking?

Leaks may come from excess condensation, a poorly closed tank, a worn coil, liquid that is too thin or puffs that are too strong. Clean contacts, check closure and replace the consumable if it persists.

Can I wash the pod or atomizer with water?

Only the parts the manufacturer allows you to clean, and always removing the coil first when required. Never get the battery, coil or charging port wet.

When should I change the coil or cartridge?

When you notice burnt taste, clear loss of flavour, weak vapour, frequent leaks or a harsh sensation even when the liquid and power are correct.
