Troubleshooting and tips for vaping or electronic cigarettes

Most vape problems have a simple cause: low battery, dirty contacts, worn coil, incompatible liquid, excess condensation or drawing too hard. Before assuming the device is broken, diagnose it in order.

Practical guide for adult smokers using an electronic cigarette. If the device overheats, smells unusual, gets wet or shows visible damage, stop using it and contact the shop or manufacturer.

1. Quick diagnosis: before changing anything

When an electronic cigarette fails, always start with the basics. Many issues are solved without replacing the device.

1. Charge

Connect the device and check whether it responds. Some devices will not activate when the battery is too low.

2. Contacts

Clean the contact area between battery and pod, cartridge or atomizer. Condensation can prevent detection.

3. Replacement

Try another compatible coil, cartridge or pod. Consumables wear out and can fail.

4. Liquid and draw

Check whether the liquid is too thick, whether you are taking too many puffs in a row or whether the power is too high.

2. Battery or mod: common problems and solutions

The battery does not respond

Check that the device is not turned off or locked. Many models activate with 5 quick clicks. If it does not respond, try another cable, another suitable adapter and check that the charging port is clean and dry.

It lights up but produces no vapour

This is usually a contact or consumable detection issue. Remove the pod or atomizer, dry the contacts, place it back and try another compatible cartridge or coil if it continues.

It flashes when pressing

Flashing may indicate low battery, long-draw protection, short circuit, coil not detected or poor contact. Check charge, cleaning, consumable and the manufacturer’s manual.

It works, but feels weak

This may be low battery, worn coil, incorrect power or unsuitable replacement. Over time, batteries lose autonomy; if performance drops sharply, the device may need replacing.

Do not force internal parts

Avoid manipulating pins, rubber seals or internal contacts if you are not experienced. Forcing parts can break the device, cause leaks or void warranty.

3. Atomizer, cartridge or pod: what to check

Coil not detected

Remove the cartridge or atomizer, clean contacts, check that the coil is correctly installed and place it back. If it continues, try another compatible replacement.

Weak vapour or poor flavour

This usually indicates a worn coil, low battery, insufficient power, unsuitable liquid or airflow too open. Adjust one thing at a time to find the cause.

Condensation in the mouthpiece

Some condensation is normal. Clean the mouthpiece and pod area with dry paper. If it builds up a lot, check for draws that are too strong or liquid that is too thin.

Damaged seals, threads or glass

Drops, poorly closed threads or worn seals can cause leaks. On some atomizers you can replace the glass or O-rings; on closed pods, the cartridge usually needs replacing.

4. Leaks, bubbling and flooded coil

If the device bubbles, spits or leaks liquid through the airflow, there is usually excess liquid in the coil or accumulated condensation.

Common causes

Drawing too hard.
Liquid too thin for the coil.
Tank overfilled.
Worn or badly installed coil.
Sharp temperature or pressure changes.

Practical fix

Clean the mouthpiece, contacts and airflow with dry paper. If the cartridge is flooded, remove it, wrap it with tissue and gently blow through the mouthpiece without activating the device. Then try softer puffs.

5. Burnt taste: cause and solution

Burnt taste appears when the cotton inside the coil heats without enough liquid or when the coil is already worn out. Once the cotton is burnt, the taste cannot be fixed: the replacement must be changed.

New coil not primed: wait 5-10 minutes after filling.
Power too high: lower wattage or stay within the manufacturer’s recommended range.
Liquid too thick: it may wick badly in small pods or coils.
Too many puffs in a row: leave a few seconds between puffs so the cotton can re-saturate.
Old coil: replace the coil, cartridge or pod.

Do not keep using a coil that clearly tastes burnt. Besides poor experience, it will spoil the flavour of any new liquid.

6. Tips for better vaping

Discreet and respectful draw

Take gentle puffs, avoid many in a row and exhale calmly. Always respect places where vaping is not allowed and avoid disturbing others.

More vapour without burning the coil

Open airflow progressively.
Use coils designed for higher power.
Increase wattage only within the recommended range.
Choose higher-VG liquids if the device allows it.
Leave time between puffs to avoid dry hits.

Better flavour

Use the right coil, keep the cartridge clean, avoid overheating the liquid and replace the consumable when flavour starts dropping. More power does not always mean better flavour.

Lower liquid consumption

Use higher-ohm coils, moderate power and an MTL draw. Sub-ohm devices produce more vapour but also use much more liquid.

Choose a shop with customer service, advice and technical support. If you have doubts, contact them before buying.

8. Cleaning and maintenance

Keep devices, contacts, mouthpieces, cartridges, atomizers and chargers clean. Cleaning matters for hygiene and because dirty contacts reduce performance, create false faults and may increase consumption.

Do not forget coils: replace them when performance drops, strange flavour appears, vapour weakens or leaks start. A worn consumable causes most problems.

Frequently asked questions about vaping problems

Why does my vape flash and not work?

It may indicate low battery, poor contact, coil not detected, device protection or short circuit. Check charge, contacts and compatible replacement.

What should I do if my vape leaks?

Clean condensation, check that the tank is properly closed, inspect the coil or cartridge and avoid drawing too hard. If it continues, replace the consumable.

Why does it taste burnt?

Usually because of a dry, worn, poorly primed coil, too much power or liquid that is too thick. If the cotton is already burnt, the coil must be changed.
